Scotmed Modified Insulated Cusco Speculum with Smoke Tube

"Patient safety and litigation is an issue that
no member of the health care team can afford to ignore"
More and more Colposcopy Units
are now returning to diathermy excision biopsy of the cervix.
As a result, concern has been expressed by some staff as to the
safety of
this procedure while using stainless steel or blackened speculums. Unfortunately
many staff are convinced that blackened speculums are insulated which is not
the case.
The blackened speculum is designed only to absorb laser light and
must
not be confused with insulated speculums. Good practice would be the ability
to instantly identify speculums which are suitable for diathermy use. These speculums
should never be black in colour.
We have designed and produce a
range of insulated speculums which are specifically made for use during diathermy
excision. In addition we have placed the smoke extraction tube at the optimum
position from the distal end to help prevent blockage by tissue.
We also offer a re-insulation service for all our products.
The Scotmed Insulated Speculum has been in regular use for over three years by many of the UK's leading Gynaecologists. If you would like further information, contact us here.
